A National Authority for the Media and Communications has been created with authority to punish radio channels, public and private television, newspapers, blog sites and the Internet. At its head, was appointed its president for nine years and four others are close to the President's party. The Constitution has been amended to able to act in these areas by simple decree. Its task is to ensure that information is "politically balanced" and not "threaten or minorities or majorities." The Authority now has the right to inspect computers and documents from any news organization, in the absence of any crime. The media have an obligation to reveal their sources when it considers the sensitive subject to national security. The editors of the public channels have been dismantled and must feed information to a central fund and free, also for all media. Any breach of from television is liable to a fine of 700,000 euros and off air a week, and 89 000 for the print or online.
This law was passed in the night of December 21, 2010 in Parliament. Protesters gathered Liberty Square, members have affixed their lips taped, but the law creating the Authority has obtained a large majority. Chair of the Authority called Annamaria Szalai. The law enacted to come into force on 1 January 2011 in the Republic of Hungary, the day this country will succeed in the Kingdom of Belgium to the presidency European Union.
