2011: Au nom du peuple iranien

It's not every day that an editorial that brevity can only give good truths to tell, and a true vision of history to the present. That's what succeeds today columnist World front page of its delivery of 20/21 February. The text is brief, but knew we could write as well, however it is urgent to think, say and repeat.

The Iranian regime opposed the "hatred" to revolt. - The Iranian regime is afraid. The Islamic Republic feels threatened by the wind of anger blows over the Middle East. At least as much if not more so than in many Arab capitals, it is Tehran that the fall of two old autocracies in the region, those of Egypt and Tunisia, sounds like a warning. An alarm signal which causes near-panic reactions among the highest leaders of the regime, the Guide Ali Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

For what system a little bit sure of himself and his foundation would convene as The Iranian government has done Friday, February 18, a "Day of hatred" against the opposition? In which a group of parliamentary regime with an overwhelming majority feels so threatened by such opposition that he called nothing more or less, to the hanging of its leaders - in this case and Mehdi Mousavi Karoubi?

The climate that prevails today in Tehran is a climate of terror, one that broadcasts a nervous system made, not to say hysterical, by the resistance opposed to it for two years. The Iranians said the movement of "green" are as courageous as the Egyptians and Tunisians Tahrir Square Avenue Habib Bourguiba. They belong to the same generation, using the same tools of electronic communication, express the same claim: the end of the age of tyrants in a region that has only too well known.

MM. Khamanei and Ahmadinejad had immediately sensed danger. They welcomed the Egyptian Revolution. They wanted to see a revolution in the name of Islam. " They hoped that the fall of Hosni Mubarak would break the Sunni Arab front formed in the West to contain the desire for regional dominance of the Islamic Republic.

It was rude of lures. In fact, they were well received the danger came from Cairo for a quasi-military dictatorship like their own: the example of women and men who take to the streets to denounce oppression and restore their dignity. And this week, leaders of the Islamic Republic were taken aback by the renewed strength of the protest movement, they thought they had crushed in blood in June 2009 after having robbed him of victory in the presidential election.

To tell their solidarity with the Tahrir Square, the "green" ventured into the streets Monday. And how! For thousands, perhaps tens of thousands. They showed with incredible shine and courage that nothing had been for two years because of them - any more than the prison widespread torture, death sentences that extrajudicial killings, arbitrary and state terrorism combined.

Seized with fear, the regime responded with more repression. Hundreds of Iranians have been jailed this week. The leaders of the "green" are designated for the condemnation of the regime thugs, their parents threatened. But who knows if the fear is not changing sides in Iran? - Le Monde.
